Let's think about this a bit.

bicycles.  These things do as we tell them and do not think about what they are Many
of us who have just started riding come from riding cars, motorcycles or doing.

our horse over ever obstacle on the trail.  Then the horse actually thinks and does
things for us without asking.  If you have a well seasoned trail horse they may even
stop and help you balance or talk to you about if you are leaning the right way up or
down hill.  Then you realize that you are two beings riding through the woods and
not just a passenger.

The opposite thing can happen when you mix a novice rider with an novice horse.
Since neither one knows what they are to do sometimes a wreck can occur.
Communication will not be at the best.

At Sierra Ranch we strive to meet the rule of 10.  This means that the horse and rider
combination should have a combination of 10 years of experience.  So a 20 year old
horse and a novice rider is a safe combination.  A rider that has been riding for a
number of years needs to be the one that helps train the younger horses.  Either rider
or horse can only gain what the other knows.

As you can see older horses are great for training the younger kids.  You can save a
lot of ER visits for the same cost as the price of a great older horse.  Or chance it with
a cheap younger horse.  Your call.

We hope you enjoy our philosophy and will come visit Sierra Ranch.
